Isonzo Front
The Isonzo Front was a series of battles during World War I, primarily fought between the Austro-Hungarian and Italian armies along the Isonzo River in present-day Slovenia and Italy. The front was characterized by difficult terrain and harsh conditions, leading to high casualties and limited territorial gains for both sides.
Between 1915 and 1917, there were twelve major battles at the Isonzo Front, with the Italians aiming to break through Austro-Hungarian defenses. Despite initial successes, the front became a stalemate, exemplifying the challenges of trench warfare and the strategic importance of the region in the broader context of the war.
