Islamic Messianism
Islamic Messianism refers to the belief in a future savior figure, known as the Mahdi, who will emerge to restore justice and righteousness in the world. This concept is particularly significant in Shia Islam, where the Mahdi is believed to be the twelfth Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi, who is in occultation and will return to lead the faithful.
In Sunni Islam, the Mahdi is also recognized but is not linked to a specific lineage. Both sects anticipate that the Mahdi will appear during a time of great turmoil and will be accompanied by the return of Jesus (Isa) to defeat evil and establish a period of peace.
