Isla da Queimada Grande
Isla da Queimada Grande, also known as Snake Island, is a small island located off the coast of Brazil. It covers an area of about 43 hectares and is famous for its large population of golden lancehead pit vipers, a highly venomous snake species. The island is uninhabited and is protected by the Brazilian government, making it illegal to visit without special permission.
The island's unique ecosystem has developed due to its isolation, leading to a high level of endemism. The golden lancehead is found nowhere else in the world, and its presence has made Isla da Queimada Grande a subject of scientific research and conservation efforts.
