Isaac Mayer Wise
Isaac Mayer Wise (1819-1893) was a prominent American rabbi and reformer in Judaism. He played a crucial role in the development of the Reform Judaism movement in the United States, advocating for modern interpretations of Jewish practices and beliefs. Wise founded the Hebrew Union College in 1875, which became the first institution for training Reform rabbis in America.
In addition to his educational contributions, Wise was instrumental in establishing the Union of American Hebrew Congregations in 1873, which aimed to unify Reform synagogues across the country.
