Irish autonomy
Irish autonomy refers to the ability of Ireland to govern itself and make decisions independently, particularly in relation to its political and economic affairs. This concept gained prominence in the early 20th century, especially with the push for Home Rule, which aimed to give Ireland more control over its own governance while remaining part of the United Kingdom.
The establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922 marked a significant step towards autonomy, granting Ireland self-governing powers. Over time, this led to further independence, culminating in the declaration of the Republic of Ireland in 1949, which fully severed political ties with the British Commonwealth.
