Irish Geography
Ireland is an island located in the North Atlantic Ocean, west of Great Britain. It is divided into two main political regions: the Republic of Ireland in the south and Northern Ireland in the north, which is part of the United Kingdom. The island features a diverse landscape, including rolling hills, rugged coastlines, and lush green fields, earning it the nickname "Emerald Isle."
The highest peak in Ireland is Carrauntoohil, standing at 1,038 meters (3,406 feet) in the MacGillycuddy's Reeks mountain range. Major rivers, such as the Shannon, the longest river in Ireland, flow through the countryside, while numerous lakes, including Lough Neagh, the largest lake, contribute to the island's natural beauty.
