Iran's nuclear program
Iran's nuclear program began in the 1950s with the help of the United States under the Atoms for Peace program. Over the years, Iran has developed its nuclear technology, claiming it is for peaceful purposes, such as energy production and medical research. However, concerns have arisen regarding the potential for developing nuclear weapons.
The international community, particularly the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has monitored Iran's nuclear activities. In 2015, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was established to limit Iran's nuclear capabilities in exchange for sanctions relief. However, the agreement faced challenges, especially after the U.S. withdrew in 2018.
