Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is an agreement reached in 2015 between Iran and six world powers: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, China, and Germany. The deal aimed to limit Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions. It was designed to ensure that Iran could not develop nuclear weapons while allowing for peaceful nuclear energy use.
In 2018, the United States withdrew from the JCPOA and reinstated sanctions on Iran, leading to increased tensions. Despite this, the remaining signatories have sought to maintain the agreement and continue diplomatic efforts to address concerns regarding Iran's nuclear activities and regional influence.
