Ionic order
The Ionic order is one of the classical styles of ancient Greek architecture, characterized by its slender, elegant columns and decorative scroll-like capitals. It originated in the eastern Greek islands, particularly Ionia, and is known for its more ornate features compared to the simpler Doric order.
Ionic columns typically stand on a base and have fluted shafts that rise to a capital adorned with volutes, or spiral scrolls. This architectural style was commonly used in temples and public buildings, such as the famous Erechtheion on the Acropolis in Athens.
