Ionic Column
The Ionic Column is one of the three classical orders of ancient Greek architecture, alongside the Doric and Corinthian orders. It is characterized by its slender, fluted shaft and distinctive scroll-like ornaments, known as volutes, on the capital. The Ionic style is often associated with elegance and grace, making it popular in various structures, especially in the eastern regions of Greece.
Typically, Ionic columns are taller and more decorative than Doric columns, which have a simpler design. They are commonly found in temples and public buildings, such as the Temple of Athena Nike in Athens. The Ionic order has influenced architectural styles throughout history, including the Neoclassical movement.
