Insulin Secretion
Insulin secretion is the process by which the pancreas releases insulin, a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels. When we eat, carbohydrates are broken down into glucose, which enters the bloodstream. In response, specialized cells in the pancreas called beta cells detect the increase in glucose and release insulin to facilitate the uptake of glucose by cells for energy.
Insulin also plays a role in storing excess glucose as glycogen in the liver and muscle tissues. This helps maintain stable blood sugar levels, preventing spikes that can lead to conditions like diabetes. Proper insulin secretion is essential for overall metabolic health.
