Insect Orders
Insect orders are categories that classify insects based on shared characteristics. There are over 30 recognized orders, with some of the most common being Coleoptera (beetles), Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths), and Hymenoptera (ants, bees, and wasps). Each order contains various species that exhibit unique traits, behaviors, and ecological roles.
These classifications help scientists study and understand the vast diversity of insects. For example, Diptera includes flies and mosquitoes, while Orthoptera encompasses grasshoppers and crickets. By organizing insects into orders, researchers can better analyze their evolution, interactions, and contributions to ecosystems.
