Inherited Retinal Disorders
Inherited Retinal Disorders are a group of eye conditions that are passed down through families. These disorders affect the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye, leading to vision problems. Common types include retinitis pigmentosa and Stargardt disease, which can cause symptoms like night blindness and loss of central vision.
These conditions are caused by genetic mutations that disrupt the normal function of retinal cells. While there is currently no cure, research is ongoing to find treatments, including gene therapy and retinal implants. Early diagnosis and support can help individuals manage their vision loss effectively.
