Inferior Rectus Muscle
The Inferior Rectus Muscle is one of the six extraocular muscles responsible for eye movement. It is located at the bottom of the eye and primarily functions to depress the eyeball, allowing it to look downward. This muscle is innervated by the oculomotor nerve, which is crucial for its movement.
In addition to depression, the Inferior Rectus Muscle also assists in adduction and intorsion of the eye. Proper functioning of this muscle is essential for coordinated eye movements, which are important for activities such as reading and tracking objects. Dysfunction can lead to issues like double vision.
