Indo-Jamaicans
Indo-Jamaicans are individuals of Indian descent who have settled in Jamaica. Their ancestors primarily arrived in the 19th and early 20th centuries as indentured laborers, replacing the enslaved African workforce on sugar plantations after the abolition of slavery. This migration introduced various aspects of Indian culture, including cuisine, festivals, and religious practices.
Today, Indo-Jamaicans contribute to the diverse cultural landscape of Jamaica. They celebrate traditional festivals such as Diwali and Holi, while also integrating into the broader Jamaican society. The community has maintained its unique identity, blending Indian traditions with local customs, enriching the island's multicultural heritage.
