Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada
Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) was a department of the Canadian government responsible for policies and programs related to Indigenous peoples and northern communities. Its main focus was to support the rights, well-being, and self-determination of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit populations across Canada. INAC worked to improve living conditions, education, and economic opportunities for these communities.
In 2019, INAC was restructured and renamed Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) to better reflect its commitment to reconciliation and collaboration with Indigenous peoples. The department continues to address issues such as land claims, resource management, and the unique needs of Northern communities.
