Indigenous Peoples of Malaysia
The Indigenous Peoples of Malaysia, known as the Orang Asli in Peninsular Malaysia and various ethnic groups in Sabah and Sarawak, represent the country's original inhabitants. They comprise diverse communities, each with unique languages, cultures, and traditions. The major groups include the Senoi, Negrito, and Proto-Malay in Peninsular Malaysia, while Kadazan-Dusun, Iban, and Bajau are prominent in East Malaysia.
These communities often rely on traditional practices for their livelihoods, such as hunting, gathering, and agriculture. Despite their rich cultural heritage, Indigenous Peoples face challenges, including land rights issues and socio-economic marginalization. Efforts are ongoing to preserve their cultures and improve their living conditions.
