Indian meal moths
The Indian meal moth is a common pest found in homes and food storage areas. It is small, typically measuring about 1/2 inch long, with a distinctive reddish-brown color on its wings. These moths are attracted to grains, nuts, and dried fruits, where they lay their eggs. The larvae, which are the caterpillar stage, can cause significant damage to stored food products.
To prevent infestations, it is essential to store food in airtight containers and regularly check for signs of moths or larvae. If an infestation occurs, cleaning the affected areas and discarding contaminated food can help eliminate the problem.
