Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany
The Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD) was a political party formed in 1917 during World War I. It emerged from a split in the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) due to disagreements over the war and the party's support for it. The USPD aimed to represent more radical socialist ideas and sought to promote peace and social reform.
The party played a significant role in the post-war period, particularly during the German Revolution of 1918-1919. However, it struggled to maintain a cohesive identity and eventually dissolved in 1920, with many members rejoining the SPD or aligning with the Communist Party of Germany (KPD).
