The event featured elite runner Eliud Kipchoge, who had previously set the world record for the marathon. During the challenge, Kipchoge completed the 42.195 kilometers (26.2 miles) in an astonishing time of 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 40 seconds. However, this achievement was not recognized as an official world record due to the use of pacers and a controlled environment, which are not allowed in standard marathon races.
