Hyperplasia
Hyperplasia is a medical term that refers to the increase in the number of cells in a tissue or organ. This growth can occur in response to various stimuli, such as hormonal changes or increased demand for a specific function. Unlike cancer, hyperplasia is usually a benign condition and can be reversible if the underlying cause is removed.
Common examples of hyperplasia include benign prostatic hyperplasia in men, where the prostate gland enlarges, and endometrial hyperplasia, which involves the thickening of the uterine lining. While hyperplasia itself is not cancerous, it can sometimes lead to an increased risk of developing cancer if not monitored.
