Hyper-IgE Syndrome
Hyper-IgE Syndrome is a rare immunodeficiency disorder characterized by elevated levels of immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the blood. This condition leads to recurrent infections, particularly of the skin and lungs, due to a weakened immune response. Individuals with this syndrome may also experience eczema and other allergic conditions.
The syndrome is often caused by genetic mutations, most commonly in the STAT3 gene. Diagnosis typically involves blood tests to measure IgE levels and assess immune function. Treatment focuses on managing infections and may include antibiotics, antifungal medications, and immunotherapy to help control symptoms.
