Hylobates lar
Hylobates lar, commonly known as the white-handed gibbon, is a small ape found in the forests of Southeast Asia, particularly in Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos. They are known for their long arms and distinctive white hands and feet, which help them swing through trees. These gibbons are social animals, living in family groups and communicating through loud calls.
White-handed gibbons primarily eat fruits, leaves, and flowers, making them important seed dispersers in their ecosystem. They are agile climbers and spend most of their time in the canopy. Unfortunately, Hylobates lar faces threats from habitat loss and hunting, leading to a decline in their populations.
