Hylobates
Hylobates is a genus of small apes known as gibbons, which are native to the forests of Southeast Asia. These primates are characterized by their long arms, which they use for swinging through trees, and their vocalizations, which include loud calls that can be heard over long distances. Gibbons are social animals, often living in family groups.
There are several species within the Hylobates genus, including the Hylobates lar, commonly known as the lar gibbon. Gibbons are known for their agility and are considered the fastest of the tree-dwelling primates. They primarily eat fruits, leaves, and flowers, playing an important role in their ecosystem as seed dispersers.
