Hylobates Lar
Hylobates lar, commonly known as the white-handed gibbon, is a small primate found in the forests of Southeast Asia, particularly in Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos. These gibbons are known for their long arms and distinctive white or light-colored hands and feet, which help them swing through trees with agility. They primarily eat fruits, leaves, and flowers, making them important seed dispersers in their ecosystem.
White-handed gibbons are social animals, often living in small family groups consisting of a mated pair and their offspring. They are known for their loud, melodic calls, which they use to communicate with each other and establish territory. Unfortunately, Hylobates lar faces threats from habitat loss and poaching, leading to a decline in their populations.
