Hungarian Revolution Of 1848
The Hungarian Revolution of 1848 was part of a series of European uprisings against oppressive rule. It began on March 15, 1848, when Hungarian nationalists demanded independence from the Austrian Empire and sought political reforms, including freedom of the press and a parliamentary system. The movement was inspired by the broader wave of revolutions across Europe.
The revolution initially succeeded, leading to the establishment of a Hungarian government under Lajos Kossuth. However, by late 1849, the Austrian Empire, with help from Russia, crushed the revolution. Despite its failure, the uprising laid the groundwork for future movements toward Hungarian independence.
