Hungarian Energy Sector
The Hungarian energy sector is primarily based on a mix of energy sources, including natural gas, nuclear power, and renewable energy. The Paks Nuclear Power Plant is a significant contributor, providing around 50% of the country's electricity. Hungary is also working to increase its share of renewable energy, focusing on solar and wind power.
The sector is regulated by the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority, which oversees energy prices and ensures competition. Hungary imports a substantial portion of its energy, particularly natural gas, mainly from Russia and Austria, making energy security a key concern for the country.
