Hunebedden
Hunebedden are ancient burial mounds found primarily in the northeastern part of the Netherlands. These megalithic structures were built during the Neolithic period, around 5,000 years ago, using large stones called dolmens. They served as graves for the deceased and are considered significant archaeological sites.
The construction of Hunebedden involved placing large capstones on upright stones, creating a chamber. Many of these structures are part of the Hunebedden Route, a designated path that allows visitors to explore and learn about these historical sites. Today, they are protected as cultural heritage and attract tourists and researchers alike.
