Humbert II
Humbert II, also known as Humbert II of Savoy, was the last king of Italy, reigning from 1946 until the monarchy was abolished. He was born on June 15, 1904, and was a member of the House of Savoy, which had ruled Italy since its unification in the 19th century. His reign ended following a referendum in which the Italian people voted to establish a republic.
After the monarchy was dissolved, Humbert II went into exile, primarily residing in Portugal. He lived a quiet life until his death on March 18, 1983, in Geneva, Switzerland. His legacy is often discussed in the context of the transition from monarchy to republic in Italy.
