Howland
Howland is a small island located in the central Pacific Ocean, part of the United States Minor Outlying Islands. It is uninhabited and covers an area of about 1.5 square miles. The island is known for its flat terrain and is primarily composed of coral and guano deposits.
The island is situated approximately 1,800 miles southwest of Hawaii and is part of the Howland and Baker Islands National Wildlife Refuge. It was discovered in 1842 and has historical significance due to its role in early aviation, particularly as a refueling stop for flights across the Pacific.
