Phoenix Islands
The Phoenix Islands are a group of eight small islands located in the central Pacific Ocean, part of the Republic of Kiribati. They are known for their rich biodiversity and unique ecosystems, including coral reefs and various marine species. The islands are mostly uninhabited, with the largest being Kanton Island.
In 2008, the Phoenix Islands were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to their ecological significance. The area is also recognized for its conservation efforts, particularly in protecting marine life and habitats, making it an important site for scientific research and environmental preservation.
