Horned Grebe
The Horned Grebe is a small water bird known for its striking appearance, especially during the breeding season. It has a distinctive black and gold plumage, with prominent tufts of feathers that resemble horns. This bird typically measures about 12 to 15 inches in length and is found in freshwater lakes and ponds across North America and parts of Europe.
During the winter, the Horned Grebe's plumage changes to a more subdued gray and white, making it less conspicuous. These birds are excellent divers, feeding primarily on small fish and invertebrates. They are often seen swimming gracefully on the water's surface or diving to catch their prey.
