Western Grebe
The Western Grebe is a large waterbird known for its striking appearance, featuring a long neck and slender body. It has a distinctive black and white plumage, with a sharp bill that helps it catch fish. These birds are often found in freshwater lakes and marshes across western North America, especially during the breeding season.
During the breeding season, Western Grebes perform elaborate courtship displays, including synchronized swimming and head bobbing. They build floating nests made of aquatic vegetation, where they lay 2 to 5 eggs. These grebes are excellent divers, using their webbed feet to propel themselves underwater in search of food.
