Hojo Masako
Hojo Masako was a prominent figure in Japanese history, born in 1160. She was the daughter of Hojo Tokimasa, a powerful samurai, and became the wife of Minamoto no Yoritomo, the founder of the Kamakura shogunate. After her husband's death in 1199, she played a crucial role in the political landscape of Japan.
Masako was known for her intelligence and strong leadership. She took on the title of shikken, or regent, effectively governing on behalf of her son, Minamoto no Yoriie. Her influence helped shape the early years of the Kamakura period, making her one of the most significant women in Japanese history.
