Hippodrome of Constantinople
The Hippodrome of Constantinople was a large public space in the city of Constantinople, now known as Istanbul, Turkey. Built in the 3rd century AD, it served as a venue for chariot races, athletic competitions, and public events. The Hippodrome could accommodate tens of thousands of spectators and was a central part of Byzantine culture.
The structure featured a long, oval shape and was adorned with various monuments, including the Obelisk of Theodosius and the Serpent Column. Over time, the Hippodrome fell into disrepair, but its historical significance remains, reflecting the grandeur of the Byzantine Empire.
