Serpent Column
The Serpent Column is an ancient bronze monument located in the Hippodrome of Constantinople, now Istanbul, Turkey. It was originally created in 478 BC to commemorate the Greek victory over the Persians at the Battle of Plataea. The column features three intertwined serpents and was once topped with a golden tripod, which has since been lost.
The column was brought to Constantinople by the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great as a symbol of victory and unity. Over the centuries, it has suffered damage and has been partially restored, but it remains an important historical artifact reflecting the cultural heritage of ancient Greece and Rome.
