Hindu Sannyasa
Hindu Sannyasa is a spiritual practice in Hinduism where an individual renounces worldly life to seek spiritual liberation. This stage is often considered the fourth and final phase of life, known as Ashrama, which follows Brahmacharya (student life), Grihastha (householder), and Vanaprastha (hermit stage). Sannyasis, or renunciates, typically live a life of simplicity, meditation, and detachment from material possessions.
The practice of Sannyasa involves taking vows of celibacy, non-attachment, and often adopting a distinctive orange or saffron robe. Sannyasis may wander as monks or settle in spiritual communities, focusing on self-realization and the pursuit of Moksha, or liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
