Himba People
The Himba people are an indigenous group residing in northern Namibia, primarily in the Kunene Region. They are known for their semi-nomadic lifestyle, relying on cattle herding and subsistence farming. The Himba maintain traditional practices, including unique clothing and hairstyles, which reflect their cultural identity.
The Himba are recognized for their distinctive use of otjize, a mixture of butterfat and ochre pigment, which they apply to their skin and hair. This practice not only protects them from the sun but also symbolizes beauty and social status within their community. Their rich cultural heritage includes music, dance, and oral storytelling.
