Hildebrand Gurlitt
Hildebrand Gurlitt was a German art dealer born in 1895, known for his involvement in the art market during the Nazi regime. He was responsible for managing a significant collection of artworks, many of which were acquired under controversial circumstances, including those looted from Jewish families during World War II.
After the war, Gurlitt's collection remained largely hidden until it was discovered in 2012 in his son’s home in Munich. The collection included works by renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, raising questions about provenance and the restitution of stolen art.
