Higaonon
The Higaonon are an indigenous group primarily found in the northern part of the Philippines, particularly in the provinces of Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon. They are known for their rich cultural heritage, which includes traditional practices, music, and crafts. The Higaonon people traditionally engage in agriculture, hunting, and gathering, relying on the natural resources of their mountainous environment.
Their language, also called Higaonon, belongs to the Austronesian language family. The Higaonon community has faced challenges due to modernization and land disputes, which have affected their way of life. Efforts are ongoing to preserve their culture and promote their rights as an indigenous people.
