Herero Wars
The Herero Wars were a series of conflicts between the Herero people and German colonial forces in present-day Namibia during the early 20th century. The first war, known as the Herero War (1904-1907), began when the Herero revolted against oppressive German policies, including land dispossession and forced labor. The conflict resulted in significant loss of life and marked one of the first genocides of the 20th century.
The second conflict, the Nama War, involved the Nama people, who also resisted German rule. Both wars led to brutal military campaigns, including concentration camps, and resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Herero and Nama. These events have had lasting impacts on Namibian history and identity.
