German Colonial Empire
The German Colonial Empire refers to the overseas territories controlled by Germany from the late 19th century until the end of World War I in 1918. It included regions in Africa, such as German East Africa (now Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi), German Southwest Africa (now Namibia), and several Pacific islands. The empire was established during the "Scramble for Africa," as European powers competed for colonies.
Germany's colonial ambitions were driven by economic interests, national prestige, and the desire for resources. However, the empire faced challenges, including local resistance and conflicts with other colonial powers. Following Germany's defeat in World War I, its colonies were taken away and redistributed among the victors, marking the end of the German Colonial Empire.
