Heracleum sphondylium
Heracleum sphondylium, commonly known as hogweed, is a perennial plant native to Europe and parts of Asia. It typically grows in damp, grassy areas and can reach heights of up to 2 meters. The plant features large, lobed leaves and produces clusters of white flowers that bloom in summer.
Hogweed is often confused with Giant Hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum), which is much larger and can be harmful to humans. While Heracleum sphondylium is generally less dangerous, it can still cause skin irritation in some individuals. The plant is also known for attracting various pollinators, contributing to local biodiversity.
