Hepatic Portal System
The Hepatic Portal System is a network of veins that carries blood from the digestive organs to the liver. This system collects nutrient-rich blood from the stomach, intestines, spleen, and pancreas, allowing the liver to process these nutrients before they enter the general circulation.
Once the liver has metabolized the nutrients, it sends the blood back to the heart through the inferior vena cava. This process helps regulate blood sugar levels and detoxifies harmful substances, ensuring that the body receives essential nutrients while filtering out toxins.
