Henry Slocum was a prominent American general during the American Civil War. Born on September 24, 1827, in New York, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1848. Slocum played a significant role in several key battles, including the Battle of Gettysburg and the Battle of Chancellorsville, where his leadership was instrumental.
After the war, Slocum continued his military career and served in various capacities, including as a commander in the Department of the East. He was also involved in politics and held the position of New York State Engineer. Slocum passed away on April 14, 1894.
