William T. Sherman
William T. Sherman was a prominent American general during the American Civil War. Born on February 8, 1820, in Lancaster, Ohio, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point. Sherman is best known for his leadership in the Union Army and his strategy of total war, which aimed to weaken the South's ability to fight.
Sherman's most famous campaign was his "March to the Sea" in 1864, where he led his troops from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia. This campaign involved destroying military targets, infrastructure, and civilian property to diminish the South's morale and resources. Sherman's tactics were controversial but played a significant role in the Union's victory.
