Henry II of Navarre
Henry II of Navarre was born on December 18, 1517, and became the King of Navarre in 1555. He was a member of the House of Albret and played a significant role in the political landscape of France during the French Wars of Religion. His reign was marked by efforts to maintain the independence of Navarre while navigating the complex relationships between Catholics and Protestants.
Henry II was also known for his marriage to Margaret of Valois, which was intended to unite the warring factions in France. He died on May 2, 1555, and was succeeded by his son, Henry III of Navarre, who later became Henry IV of France.
