Henry I of Portugal
Henry I of Portugal was a significant historical figure who ruled as the first King of Portugal from 1139 until his death in 1189. He was born in 1109 and was a member of the House of Burgundy. His reign marked the establishment of Portugal as a separate kingdom, distinct from the Kingdom of León and Castile.
Henry was known for his military campaigns against the Moors, which helped expand Portuguese territory. He played a crucial role in the Reconquista, the effort to reclaim the Iberian Peninsula from Muslim rule. His leadership laid the foundation for the future growth of the Portuguese nation.
