Heliamphora
Heliamphora is a genus of carnivorous plants native to the highland regions of South America, particularly in Venezuela, Guyana, and Brazil. These plants are commonly known as sun pitchers due to their unique pitcher-shaped leaves that trap and digest insects. They thrive in nutrient-poor, acidic soils, often found in cloud forests and savannas.
The structure of Heliamphora pitchers allows them to collect rainwater, which aids in digestion. The plants attract prey with nectar and colorful markings, luring insects into the slippery interior. Once inside, the insects are unable to escape and are eventually digested by enzymes produced by the plant.
