Hedwig of Andechs was a medieval noblewoman born around 1174 in Andechs, Bavaria. She was the daughter of Bertold IV, Duke of Merania and Agnes of Rochlitz. Hedwig married Henry I, Duke of Silesia and became the Duchess of Silesia, known for her piety and charitable works.
After her husband's death, Hedwig dedicated her life to religious pursuits and founded several monasteries, including the Cistercian monastery in Trzebnica. She was canonized as a saint by Pope Clement IV in 1267, and her feast day is celebrated on October 16.
